We invited 11 winning artists from the Plein Air Salon to share their advice on the most obvious but overlooked things you should know about painting outdoors, and what “plein errors” to avoid. When mixed with water, the paint will flow, but when the water evaporates (after one to 10 minutes, depending on the humidity in the air and the amount of water added), the thinned paint can seem to seize up or get “grabby” on the canvas or palette.
